A Short Primer on Situated Cognition
نویسنده
چکیده
In recent years there has been a lot of buzz about a new trend in cognitive science. The trend is associated with terms like 'embodiment', 'enactivism', 'distributed cognition', and 'the extended mind'. The ideas expressed using these terms are a diverse and sundry lot, but three of them stand out as especially central. First, cognition depends not just on the brain, but also on the body (the embodiment thesis). Second, cognitive activity routinely exploits structure in the natural and social environment (the embedding thesis). Third, the boundaries of cognition extend beyond the boundaries of individual organisms (the extension thesis). Each of these theses contributes to a picture of mental activity as dependent on the situation or context in which it occurs, whether that situation or context is relatively local (as in the case of embodiment) or relatively global (as in the case of embedding and extension). It is this picture of the mind that lies at the heart of

Genetic diversity of 45 wheat varietions were studied using AFLP markers. From 11 primer combinations of PstI and Mse1for obtaining AFLP polymorphism, six primer combinations (P-CGA/M-CTA, P-ATG/M-CTG, P-ATG/M-CAT, P-AGT/M-CTA, P-AGT/M-CAG and P-ATG/M-CAG) produced polymorphic bands. Totally, 328 bands be produced that 207 bands (63.10%) were polymorphic, which showing high polymorphism among g...
متن کاملSituated Cognition and Communities of Practice: First-Person "Lived Experiences" vs. Third-Person Perspectives
This paper considers the work of Martin Heidegger and its relation to situated cognition. The motivation for the paper springs from the perceived misconception that many educators have on situated cognition by applying situated learning strategies in a dualistic orientation, whereas situated cognition is fundamentally relativist (non-dualistic) in epistemology. Hence, we felt that the foundatio...
متن کاملGoal priming as a situated intervention tool
Research on goal priming has shown that cues in the environment can lead to goal-directed cognition and behaviour without the need for conscious intentions. This has sparked an interest in using goal priming as an intervention tool to strategically influence behaviour in line with an individual’s long-term goals. The present article first gives a brief overview of goal priming effects and their...
متن کاملEnhancing Perception and Planning of Software Agents with Emotion and Acquired Hierarchical Categories
The implementation of situated agents that mimic aspects of human or animal cognition requires psychological theories with regard to motivation, perception, emotion and memory that are both detailed and formal. The ‘Psi’ theory of psychologist D. Dörner provides a framework for agents that fulfills some of these demands and focuses on emotional modulation of perception, action-selection, planni...
